See what's often behind your pain

Lower back pain & sciatica

What you might feel

Pain getting up from a chair or after sitting in traffic. Sometimes pain, tingling or numbness shooting down the leg.

What's often behind it

Often weak glutes and deep core muscles, so the back muscles guard and overwork. Pain below the knee can mean an irritated nerve.

How we treat it

Manual therapy for stiff joints, dry needling of guarded muscles, nerve-glide techniques, and glute and core exercises specific to you.

General information only. Your assessment confirms what's going on for you.

Why long-term pain keeps coming back

Pain changes how you move. Then the way you move keeps the pain going.

When your back, hip, knee or neck has hurt for weeks, your body protects it. Muscles tighten, other muscles take over, and you start moving differently without noticing. Treating only the sore spot gives short relief. We find where the cycle starts and break it there.

01

Pain starts

A strain at the gym, a long week at the laptop, a fall, or months of sitting in traffic.

02

Muscles guard

Muscles around the area tighten to protect it. Joints stiffen. Some muscles quietly switch off.

03

Your body compensates

Other muscles and joints do the work. A weak glute makes your lower back or knee carry the load.

04

Pain keeps returning

The overloaded areas get sore too. Massage or a machine helps for a day, then it's back.

Katasi

We break the cycle

Find the weak link, free up the stiff joints and guarded muscles, then retrain how you move.

Lost hope in physio?

If physio didn't help before, it may not have been the right kind of physio.

Many people who come to us have already tried treatment. Here's what they often describe, and what we do differently.

What they often got before

Time on a machine and a heat pack, then sent home

The same printed exercise sheet everyone gets

Treatment only where it hurts, not why it hurts

Nobody explained what was actually wrong

What you get at Katasi

Hands-on treatment from your physiotherapist, not a machine

Exercises for the exact muscle that's weak, chosen from your assessment

We look for the source: the weak hip behind your knee, the stiff upper back behind your neck

You leave knowing why it hurts and what to do about it

The Katasi method

Five things we do for every patient

01

Movement-specific assessment

We watch how you bend, squat, walk, reach and turn. We test joints and individual muscles to find where your body is compensating, not just where it hurts.

02

Manual therapy

Skilled hands, not machines. Joint mobilisation and soft-tissue techniques to restore movement in stiff joints and calm guarded muscles, matched to what we find.

03

Dry needling

A fine, sterile needle releases tight knots (trigger points) deep in the muscle that hands can't reach. Used only where it suits you, and only with your consent.

04

Specific exercise therapy

Not general exercise. We target the exact muscle that's weak and making others overwork, like a sleepy glute behind lower back pain, and progress it week by week.

05

Patient education

You'll understand what's happening in your body: why that area hurts, why it feels tight or numb, and what will help it recover. Knowing why helps you get better faster.

All of this in your first visit

Consultation and treatment together for KES 3,500. No separate assessment fee.

Who we see every week

What happens when you come in

1

We listen

Your story: when it started, what makes it worse, what you've tried, and what you want to get back to.

2

We assess how you move

Movement tests, joint and muscle checks, and nerve tests where needed, to find the source and any compensation.

3

We treat you the same day

Manual therapy, dry needling if it suits you, and your first targeted exercises. Most people feel a difference in how they move.

4

You leave with a plan

A clear explanation of your pain, a home programme, and an honest estimate of how many sessions you'll need.

See a doctor first if your pain follows a fall or accident, comes with fever or unexplained weight loss, numbness around the groin or inner thighs, or new trouble controlling your bladder or bowels. If we find a sign like this during your assessment, we'll tell you and refer you.
